Diageo's Menezes stands down after health setback

ONE of Britain’s most respected and longest serving captains of industry, Diageo boss Sir Ivan Menezes, has been forced to quit early by a health emergency.
The drinks multinational revealed this morning that Sir Ivan, who has been at the helm of Diageo since 2013, suffered a “significant setback” after surgery to treat a stomach ulcer over the weekend. He remains in hospital receiving treatment, Diageo said.
Menezes will be replaced immediately by chief operating officer Debra Crew, who will stand in as interim CEO before joining the company’s board as an executive director in July.
Diageo said in a statement: “Sir Ivan Menezes is currently in hospital receiving treatment for medical conditions including a stomach ulcer.
“Over the weekend, we learned that Ivan’s recovery suffered a significant setback due to complications, which followed emergency surgery on the ulcer.
