Crest boss warns over demand after 22% slump in home sales

THE boss of housebuilder Crest Nicholson today warned that buyer demand and confidence will suffer if interest rates continue to rise, but predicted the current spate of mortgage market volatility may have reached its peak.
Peter Truscott’s comments came as the FTSE 250 company revealed that sales tumbled 22% in the first half of the year as challenging market conditions hit.
Mortgage rates have surged again in recent weeks following worse than expected inflation data for April that convinced the markets that interest rates will have to rise further from the current level of 4.5%.
