Chocolate sales soar in hunt for cheaper gifts

BRITAIN'S love of chocolate appears to be more intense than ever as shoppers on squeezed budgets cut spending on expensive presents in favour of confectionery-based gifts in the run-up to Christmas.
Sales of boxed chocolate rose 8.7% in the three months to end November compared with last year, according to Nestle UK, while search interest in "Quality Street" was up 21.7% in the first week of December compared with 2022, Google Trends data shows.
The surge comes as the Wonka origin story movie about Roald Dahl's chococate factory owner, starring Timothée Chalamet, dominates the pre-Christmas box office.
