Lorraine: My grief for dad

TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has told of her heartbreak at the death of her dad.

The broadcaster, who is from Glasgow and moved to East Kilbride as a teenager, announced the news on social media on Saturday afternoon.

Her dad John, 84, worked as a TV service engineer and was known for his passion for science and astronomy, which Lorraine had inherited from him.

Sharing a snap of them together, the STV star said: "Very sad news. My dad has died. I am mourning the man who bought me a telescope when I was five years old, who watched the Moon landings with me and taught me to always be curious and interested in everything.

"He was in poor health but it has still been a shock.

"Any of you who have experienced a similar loss will know how my brother Graham and I are feeling.

"Our priority is taking care of my mum and the family would very much appreciate privacy at this distressing time. We will miss you, Dad."

Lorraine's dad John is reported to have been found injured on a path in his home town after the area was hit by subzero temperatures and icy conditions. John tragically died at the scene.

The Sun said staff from a nearby Tesco store are thought to have found the great-grandad injured at around 7am. They then called emergency services.
