Union calls for action on attacks

School support staff are being forced to wear protective clothing at work as violence from pupils becomes “out of control”.

Union leaders are calling on the Scottish Government to take action after revealing there's been a 20 per cent rise in assaults and abuse in classrooms in the last year.

The GMB said chilling data uncovered through Freedom of Information shows some local authorities in Scotland have recorded twice as many incidents than 2023.

GMB Scotland's Keir Greenaway said: “Many support staff no long get ready for work, but ready for trouble.”
