Thousands taking part in carnival tribute to Burns

The weekend of winter magic also includes Rabbie's Winter Food and Drink Village on the Dumfries High Street and live music on the outdoor community stage and inside the Supper Club in Dumfries from noon to 11pm each day. It features local musicians, artists and producers from across the region as well as a free family hub.

The Northern Lights Dumfries programme, which includes 14 sound and light installations, is part of a free town-wide trail co-created with a range of different partners, which will help to bring light to the dark winter months, and runs right through to Monday night from 5pm to 10pm.

It is supported by the privately-funded Holywood Trust.

At the centre of the light trail experience will be Burns Light, a brand-new historical retelling of Robert Burns and the Burns Mausoleum, which is the poet's resting resting place in St Michael's Cemetery.
