Council accused of breaking law

The council has been accused of breaking the law by pressing ahead with the Whitesands scheme.

Local resident Mike Sutherland has been investigating the matter, and claims the local authority does not have the necessary legal permissions to carry out the project.

He insisted that council chiefs failed to apply for sheriff's permission to alienate several Common Good (public) assets: Whitesands, Greensands, Dock Park, and public conveniences.

The Dumfries man, who now lives in Lockerbie, said: "I have incontrovertible evidence that the scheme is being done illegally.

"Basically the council has been caught with its proverbial pants down in this and is running with it, regardless; merely in the hope that no-one has pockets deep enough to take them on in court.
