We're doing more to help young people reach their career goals

E shape our buildings and afterwards our buildings shape us.” So said Winston Churchill about the restoration of the House of Commons after the Second World War.
Those words were quoted by the deputy vice chair of the University of Derby, Keith McLay, at the opening of its new Cavendish Building last month.
A purpose-built home for the Derby International Business School, the Cavendish Building is a massive investment in Derby.
State-of-the-art facilities and a powerful vision for education are promoting the city as a destination for ambitious students, pioneering academics and forward-thinking industries.
It will be the training ground for a new generation of business leaders, entrepreneurs and people who will run our public services.
It also provides new career opportunities for young people in their local area, which is something this Labour Government is working to deliver right across our country.
For years, we have not met young people where they are.
The Social Mobility Foundation found in 2023 that four in five 16 to 18-year-olds felt they needed to move from their areas for better opportunities.
