CLOSING RUN LIFTS TARBIT UP TO SEVENTH IN FINAL SKELETON STANDINGS

FREYA Tarbit has shown she belongs on the biggest stage after bagging seventh in the Winter Olympics women's skeleton final.

The 25-year-old Ockbrook athlete was 1.33s off a medal at her first Games and was part of a trio of Brits who all cracked the top 10.

Tarbit punched the air as she finished her final run, darting around the 1.2km track in 57.77s effort and reaching a top speed of 124kph.

It lifted her up two places in the final standings and her final time across four runs was 3:50.80, 1.78s off gold medallist Janine Flock of Austria.

Former long jumper Tarbit was discovered at a talent ID day for skeleton 10 years ago.

She reached the halfway stage with an outside chance of a medal but a disappointing third run saw her fall out of contention.
