Residents say 'our point has been made' as the flags are coming down

SOME Derby residents have said that their “point has been made” after the council announced Union Jack and St George's flags are set to be taken down in the coming weeks.

Derby City Council has announced that it will begin to remove flags from public spaces and street furniture from next Monday, September 29.

"I think the message has been sent and our point has been made," said Spondon resident Tony, 62.

"They can’t stop us from putting the flags up on our own houses, but I'll miss them on the streets. I think some people may just put the flags back up. I doubt this is the end of it.

"I am amazed to see how many people joined in and I enjoyed seeing them around Derby."
