DERBY City Council says it has repeatedly raised its concerns about the “disproportionate” number of asylum seekers placed in the city in recent years - and has questioned the decision to use contingency hotels to house individuals in “such vulnerable” circumstances.
It comes after new data shows Derby has the highest rate of asylum seekers across the whole of the East Midlands.
According to the latest Home Office figures, 1,331 asylum seekers received support in Derby at the end of December 2024 more than two times the 583 people receiving support in 2014.
The data does not include people in the city under the Homes for Ukraine or Afghan Resettlement Programme.
