BUSINESS OWNER SPEAKS OUT TO PROTECT OTHER WOMEN

- By MARTIN NAYLOR

A DOMESTIC abuser from Derby who was released just three months into a three-year sentence is back behind bars for contacting the mother-of-three he attacked.

Hayley Johns said while she welcomes seeing her ex-partner Matthew Kowal returned to jail, she thinks that once he is back out again “he is going to kill me”.

The 38-year-old, of Little Eaton, is urging the authorities to keep her abusive former boyfriend inside for as long as possible.

And she has spoken out so that no other woman has to suffer in the same way she is.

Ms Johns said: “He should not have been released in the first place.

“He is a danger, he is going to come for me again like he already has and so the message I really want to get out is please don’t release him.

“People need to be aware of who he is and what he is capable of and I am a living testimony to that.

“He is going to kill me, I really am in a lot of danger because I have spoken out about him but I have to get this message out because he has so much hate for me.”

Ms Johns first spoke to the Derby Telegraph in February when 34-year-old Kowal, of Mackworth, was first released just three months into his three-year sentence after he was found guilty of one count of causing actual bodily harm and one of common assault having previously pled guilty to two counts of ABH.
