Butchers leaves market months after revamp

COUNCIL SAYS IT IS ALREADY FILLING THE SPACE WITH NEW STALLS TO BOOST TRADE

ONE of only a handful of fresh produce stalls has left Derby's Market Hall - just under four months after the £35.1million refurbished venue reopened.

Anthony Andrews Butchers, which has a shop in Duffield, brought a traditional trade back to the Market Hall, which for many years had contained many fresh food produce stalls such as butchers, greengrocers and bakers.

But the butchery left last month and Derby City Council said it was sad to see the business leave.

It added it was already “filling the space” but declined to say what that was.

A council spokesman said: “We understand that running a small business is challenging, especially in a new space.

“Anthony Andrews Butchers have now chosen to focus on their established retail location elsewhere, but we thank them for their early support of the Market Hall.
