Cena announces WWE retirement date

JOHN Cena will officially retire from the WWE on 13 December.

The 17-time world champion, whose remarkable journey has transcended the wrestling ring into Hollywood, will conclude his career with a highly-anticipated match at Saturday Night's Main Event this year.

Speaking candidly to PEOPLE magazine, Cena shared his rationale for stepping away from the squared circle.

He said: "Age plays a factor. I'm not as strong or as fast as I used to be.

"I made a promise when I started gaining some notoriety that when I'm a step slower, I will go, because there will be kids just as hungry as I was who have earned a shot to see if they can make it."
