President warns Cape skollies of his soldate as he considers calling SANDF to fight crime

WAR ON GANGS?

COMBAT ZONE: Calls for the SANDF to stabilise Cape Flats are growing louder

PRESIDENT Cyril Ramaphosa is considering deploying the army to support police in combating gang violence innie Kaap.

The province is believed to be home to an estimated 130 gangs with over 100 000 skollies, with splinter gangs forming regularly.

The past two years saw “the big names” in the underworld making headlines after Mark Lifman and Andre Naude were gunned down, while the alleged leader of the 28s prison gang, Ralph Stanfield, and his wife, Nicole Johnson, remain behind bars for court cases against them, including that of apparent underworld figure Nafiz Modack and others.

The murders of gang boss Peter Jaggers and his associate William Petersen, who were kidnapped and killed during a cocaine deal with the Colombian cartel worth R1 billion, have also made headlines.

In the last fortnight alone, a total of 84 people were murdered in the Mother City.

And earlier this week, during a televised news interview, Ramaphosa warned that he was ready to call on the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).
