Tributes pour in for legendary Cape Flats comedian Philander

- MURRAY SWART

SO LONG, SOLI

THE skies over Cape Town seemed to grow heavier yesterday as news spread of the passing of celebrated South African performer Soli Philander.

It feels like the Kaap has lost its sense of humour with the afster we of a man whose voice, laughter and storytelling helped share the culture of the Cape Flats with the country.

Philander, 65, hailed from Elsies River and was an award-winning actor, television presenter, director, comedian, playwright, radio presenter, columnist, and motivational speaker.

He is survived by his sons Caleb and Ethan, and daughters Danya and Kyla.

According to various reports and a statement from the Democratic Alliance, who paid tribute to him, Philander died "following his battle with cancer".
