Water bills £627 hike to plug leaks

SHAMELESS Thames Water wants to hike bills to £627 a year to help fix leaks.

It says tariffs could surge by 44% after it confirmed plans to boost spending and investment in its network.

Gary Carter, of the GMB trade union, said: "It's not for hard-up billpayers to dig Thames out of the financial mess they've created.
