THE number of asylum seekers housed in UK hotels has surged 8% in a year.
The new figures come just days after a court ruled more than 100 asylum seekers staying at a hotel in Essex should be removed.
The High Court judgment has seen ministers bracing for more legal challenges from councils across the country.
