INOTHEWAYURTHINKIN defied logic by spoiling the 2025 Cheltenham Gold Cup party for Galopin Des Champs.

On an afternoon the favourite’s trainer Willie Mullins dominated right from the start, a historic third win had an air of inevitability about it.

But this is jump racing and, at a Festival full of shocks, Galopin Des Champs was the latest to be dethroned and denied his chance to join the all-time greats.

Only Golden Miller, Cottage Rake, Arkle and Best Mate managed a hat-trick and Inothewayurthinkin left punters wondering what might have been with a wetter week.

After triumphing in two Gold Cups on soft ground, Galopin the great found a sun-soaked surface too lively against his younger opponent, trained by ex-farrier Gavin Cromwell and owned by JP McManus.
