Clayton in pole position to have a crack at winning Grand Prix

JONNY CLAYTON reckons 'the cheeky chap is back' as he steps up his preparation for the World Grand Prix.

Clayton heads to Leicester for a first-round meeting with Andrew Gilding in good spirits off the back of a year that has seen him show glimpses of his best form.

The world No.6 reached the final of the Masters and the World Cup, as well as enjoying a run to the semifinal of the World Matchplay and UK Open earlier this year.

The Welshman also picked up his first European Tour title in two years in Holland in May.

Clayton said: "The smile is back on my face, the cheeky chap is back, I'm heading the right way.

"Hopefully I'm going to turn up at Christmas time (for the Worlds).
