GODFATHER legend Robert Duvall has passed away at the age of 95, as the Daily Star revealed this week.

The actor played shady lawyer Tom Hagen in the Oscar-winning gangster trilogy. But how much do you know about the films that made him an icon?

Paramount Pictures were so keen to make the mob flicks, they bought the film rights based on a 20-page outline of the novel by Mario Puzo.

Not everyone was so impressed. US crime boss Joe Colombo and his organisation, the Italian-American Civil Rights League, campaigned to stop the movies being made.

Frank Sinatra believed the character of Johnny Fontane was based on him.
