WISH you were still under the duvet? It’s officially National Sickie Day, marking the date in the year when, statistically, the most people call in to work claiming that they are unwell.

In fact, up to 350,000 Brits will be absent today - but some of their reasons for taking time off will be more dubious than others.

Here JAMES MOORE reveals some of the freakiest excuses used for pulling a sickie...

“I got flu from opening the fridge late at night.”

“I'm going to the hospital because I think I broke my ribs when I was jumping at the beach last night pretending to be a salmon.”

“My cat has hairballs and I need to stay home and console it.”
