THE winner of the British Grand Prix was Lando Norris and the Formula One fans voted Nico Hulkenberg as the Driver of the Day.

- from ANDY DUNN at Silverstone

Norris was masterful and, from 19th position on the grid, Hulkenberg drove to a podium finish for the first time in his 239-race career. So, fair enough.

But if there had been a prize for radio broadcaster of the afternoon, George Russell would have won hands down.

His opening effort was simple. "It's raining. Brilliant."

He was being ironic because Russell had been sent out on slick tyres and it started raining early in the race.

After changing to more suitable tyres, he was having a decent race and if there is one thing Russell (inset) is not short of, it is belief in his own ability.

In fact, his self-confidence is so high that, with 14 laps to go and the surface still slippery, he asked his team if they were brave enough to go back to slick tyres.

"We're brave, not suicidal," came the reply.

But Russell was soon back on the blower, saying they should go for it.
