Reijnders' rise from supermarket

- by JEREMY CROSS

TIJJANI REIJNDERS has gone from stacking supermarket shelves to Premier League stardom following his £46.6m move to Manchester City.

The Holland international became City's fourth signing of the summer after joining from AC Milan.

He is set to make his debut for Pep Guardiola’s side in this month’s Club World Cup in the United States.

But the 26-year-old has had to reach the top the hard way, having worked at a food store in his native Zwolle for 12 months before earning his first professional contract.

He said: “I didn’t get a professional contract when I was 16 or 17. At one point in the summer, my mother came to me and said, ‘You have to get a job’.
