OLIVER GLASNER has claimed Crystal Palace's worst defeat of last season at Newcastle led them to win the Community Shield.

The Eagles conceded four first-half goals at St James’ Park last April and eventually lost the game 5-0.

It was to be the last loss of a historic season which saw them lift their first major trophy in the FA Cup in May.

And before returning to Newcastle today, the Austrian revealed he reminded his players of the Toon defeat after twice falling behind against Liverpool at Wembley before winning the Community Shield on penalties.

“We conceded 10 goals in three days at City and Newcastle,” Glasner recalled.
