9-year-old among five dead, 200 hurt

POLICE say a nine-year-old girl was among five people killed when a car hit crowds at a Christmas market.

Another 200 people were injured in the Friday night attack in the German town of Magdeburg.

At least 40 people were seriously injured and detectives fear the death toll could rise.

A black BMW reportedly raced through the packed market for at least 400 metres, leaving a trail of devastation.

British witness Liam Clowes, 29, said he heard horrifying screams and a metallic scraping during the attack.
