IT'S maybe not the cheeriest way to kick off an interview, but I've just asked comedian Simon Evans if he thinks we're doomed.

Not him and me specifically, but Western society in general. Reading the news some days, it's hard not to draw that conclusion.

And, well, I figured a guy like Simon, known for his GB News appearances and for having plenty to say on political issues, would be a good bloke to ask.

"Do you want me to genuinely address that?" he replies.

"Sort of, yeah," I tell him, with my usual Paxman-like intensity.
