ON his way up the black type ladder, ALMERAG (4.30) can lay down his top-grade credentials by landing the Listed Sky Bet Starman Garrowby Stakes at York this afternoon.

Initially regarded as a seven-furlong horse, with the Jersey Stakes going to be his main aim in the first half of the season, the William Haggas-trained son of Dark Angel has shown more speed than expected on his two starts this year when second at Yarmouth (ground too quick) and at Ayr where he annihilated the smart handicapper Badri.
