Vaughan voices concern at Raith’s slow starts as late dominance still ends in a defeat

- STUART WILSON AT SOMERSET PARK

LEWIS VAUGHAN says slow starts are killing Raith Rovers this season.

Rovers went 2-0 down before a late flurry should have earned a point at Ayr.

Vaughan stepped off the bench to spark a grandstand finish after Ben Dempsey and Anton Dowds had put United on easy street.

And the Raith striker could have had a five-minute hat-trick as the Fifers stormed the home goal at the death.

Vaughan admits gaffer Dougie Imrie was right to be fuming that their effort was too little, too late.

He said: “It's frustrating. We did well to get ourselves back in the game but we can't keep giving teams two goals of a head start - it makes it so difficult for ourselves.

“In the last half-hour we started to play some proper football and moved them from side to side.

“I felt if there was another five minutes added on to the game then we could have got an equaliser.

“I'm disappointed I only scored the one goal. I probably had another chance I should have scored then got another half-chance.
