DONALD Trump is facing the most consequential decision so far of his second presidency.
He must choose whether to strike at Iran and risk dragging America into a new Middle East conflict, or stand by his 2024 election campaign promise to end "forever wars".
The former reality TV star has signed off on strike plans, including using bunker-busting bombs on Iran's underground nuclear sites, but has so far stopped short of ordering an attack.
