New boss Robinson insists Dons fans will love watching his team playing fast, attacking football

- BY SCOTT BURNS

STEPHEN ROBINSON'S playing style has been questioned but he has vowed to put a team on the pitch that will play for the badge and excite the Aberdeen support.

The experienced boss has a proven track record, leading Motherwell to third place and into Europe.

At St Mirren, he achieved three top-six finishes, qualified for Europe again and lifted the Premier Sports Cup earlier this season.

The argument is that his teams are just big, physical, direct and hard to play against.

Some disgruntled Dons supporters have raised that argument regarding his appointment as successor to the axed Jimmy Thelin.

Robinson believes his success speaks for itself and his Aberdeen team will do its talking on the park - in an exciting way.

The Northern Irishman claimed: “My teams play a fast, attacking style of football.

“They get the ball into the opposition half in three and four passes. I don't play 30 passes in my own box.

“If I'm a football fan, which I am, I don't want to watch my best players not touching the ball.

“I don't want to watch my centre-forwards and wide players getting one cross a game.

“I don't want to see 50 passes in my own 18-yard box.

“I want the ball moved quickly. I want to get it to the more progressive players, the more effective players in the team as quickly as we possibly can.

“That's not long ball.
