Kid looks like living up to £25m tag as four points banked

SCOTLAND got the job done against Belarus - and it was livewire Ben Gannon Doak who offered up the spark.

Steve Clarke's side secured a vital World Cup qualifying win thanks to a Che Adams tap-in two minutes before halftime and an own goal midway through the second 45.

That made it four points out of six for Clarke's men in Group C after their creditable draw with Denmark over in Copenhagen on Friday night.

And it sets up a mouthwatering clash with Greece at Hampden next month as Scotland look to reach the finals across the Atlantic. This was a match that Clarke's team were expected to win.

But at the neutral venue behind closed doors and against a stuffy Belarus, it was a case of getting a victory by any means.

In the end, it was fairly comfortable and Scotland could have won by more.

Adams slid in to convert a Scott McTominay header from close range in the first half. Then Billy Gilmour forced a Zakhar Volkov own goal just past the hour.

But it was Bournemouth winger Gannon Doak who impressed again in a Scotland shirt as he tormented the home defence.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

Entering this international break, Clarke would have known exactly what he wanted to takea minimum of four points.

After a strong defensive display against Denmark and a workmanlike display here, that is exactly what he got.

Picking up two clean sheets along the way was another bonus. And it keeps Scotland well on course for the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
