STEPHEN O'DONNELL reckons Jens Berthel Askou has blown budget fears out of the water by getting Motherwell fourth in the Premiership on a shoestring budget.

-  ANDY McGILVRAY

Far from being an overnight success, O'Donnell has been trying to help the Fir Park club operate above their means for years but was told they couldn't afford to play the brand of football they're currently enjoying under Askou.

As Motherwell prepare for a trip to Celtic Park this afternoon, O'Donnell says he's relishing the form the Lanarkshire side are currently showing.

The 33-year-old said: "He certainly has you playing with a smile on your face, and playing a brand of football that you're excited to be involved in.

"I had some run-ins before and was told that with the budget we had, we couldn't play a nice brand of football.
