BY-ELECTIONS come and go but the vote in Gorton and Denton is set to be the most important in a generation.
And the shockwaves will be felt in Scotland no matter the result, given that Labour's next big test is the Holyrood elections in May.
Labour won the Manchester seat at the general election with a majority of 13,413 and should be a shoo-in.
Some Labour MPs predict they will hold on but the Greens and Reform both feel victory is within their grasp.
The campaign shows Labour are losing votes to the Greens on the left and to Reform on the right.
