So the Livingston boss is chuffed to finally land a player he's admired for years, with Arfield set to sign a deal until the end of the season after exiting Falkirk.

Martindale has been busy bolstering his squad for a survival battle, with Estonian striker Alex Tamm the latest to be unveiled after joining on loan from Slovenian champions Olimpija Ljubljana.

Midfielder Emmanuel Danso checked in from Norway while Curacao winger Joshua Zimmerman has been signed from the Dutch second-tier side TOP Oss.

Now Martindale reckons Arfield, 37, who has been training with the club, will be another vital addition as the midfielder's enthusiasm for the game is infectious.
