IT is a given that Keir Starmer has had a poor start as Labour's first prime minister since Gordon Brown.

Cutting winter fuel payments from poorer pensioners was a disaster and the Government’ initial welfare cuts plan was not thought through properly.

Hitting business with a national insurance rise while declaring economic growth to be the top priority was another bad move.

But Starmer’s decision to appoint Peter Mandelson as the UK ambassador to the US has been his most terrible blunder.
