Well up for Cup semi after sweeping aside United

HAMPDEN CHEER WE COME

MOTHERWELL gave themselves the perfect Hampden sendoff by deservedly beating a poor United side.

A goal in each half from Tawanda Maswanhise and Elliot Watt made it two league wins in a row for the Steelmen for the first time this season.

And they will be heading to Glasgow full of confidence for their Premier Sports Cup semifinal with St Mirren on Saturday.

United improved after a desperately poor first half but they conceded a second goal soon after Luca Stephenson had hit the woodwork.

And the hosts who have actually played better and not won this season were good value for their win against a timid Tannadice outfit.

With that semi in mind, Jens Berthel Askou changed almost half of his team.

Paul McGinn, Johnny Koutroumbis, Callum Slattery, Regan Charles-Cook and Callum Hendry were all drafted into the side.

United introduced Julius Eskesen and Amar Fatah to their lineup but Steelmen pinned them back in the opening spell without creating much of attacking interest.
