Mood music from Rohl and Cavenagh has to cue mentality shift

- BARRY FERGUSON

PEOPLE ask me where things are going wrong with Rangers. The answer is simple... my old club has lost its ruthless streak.

Whether it's on the park or off it, the win at all costs mentality drummed into me as a kid has been lost along the way.

That's why I've been heartened by one or two messages which have come out of Ibrox over the course of the last few weeks.

Yes, another two points were dropped at Tannadice on Wednesday and that will be a massive frustration for Danny Rohl, especially as his side were more aggressive and energetic in those 96 minutes leading up to the penalty against Dundee United.

He'll have been pleased with the improvement in the overall approach of his players and the intensity of their work.

But he'll also have been hugely disappointed with the finer details in both boxes. Ultimately, that's where games are won and lost.

And it's where Rangers really need to rediscover a ruthless streak if they want to start clocking up results on a more consistent basis.

Danny may have hoped he'd turned a corner after rattling off four straight league wins but dropping four points in back-to-back matches against Falkirk and United has just underlined how much work still needs to be done. That's why I was encouraged the other day when he talked about recruiting players who know what it means to wear a Rangers shirt.

He's spot on and it was something I said myself during my short time in charge last season.
