Crime experts warn of tit-for-tat attacks as 3 men held over killing

- BY TOM PETTIFOR

BRITISH tourists are on alert amid fears the killing of a suspected Turkish crime boss in a popular Spanish holiday resort will spark a gang war.

The victim, named by Turkish media as Caner Kocer, 30, was gunned down on Sunday at 7pm in the centre of Torrevieja, south of Alicante on the Costa Blanca.

Two men are believed to have fired six shots from close range before fleeing in a car driven by a third suspect.

Witnesses to the attack, in the old town seafront area popular with tourists included a mother who had a baby in a pushchair.

Kocer was reportedly one of the leaders of a Turkish organised crime gang known as the Daltons, who have been in dispute with rivals, the Caspers.

Three Turkish men were reportedly arrested around 40 minutes after the killing.
