Crook raked in £1m while churning out fake IDs

- BY CONNOR GORDON

A CROOK made £1million from a fake identity racket while on the run for 14 years.

Craig Milligan vanished in 2010 while facing an indecent images accusation and awaiting sentence for a fraud charge.

The 47 year-old went into hiding under the names of two dead men but was snared in 2024 after a routine driver check by police in Dumfries.

Officers searched his house in the town and found gear for making false IDs including scanners and holograms.

Detectives discovered Milligan had illegally opened seven bank accounts and six credit cards using the aliases.

He has now been jailed for four years after pleading guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to being involved in a fraudulent scheme and three other offences under the Identity Documents Act.
