PLEDGE ON PRICES TO FIGHT RIVALS

THE boss of Asda has pledged to beat rivals in shielding its shoppers from higher prices.
Food price inflation has reached five per cent nationally, with warnings of worse to come.
But Asda executive chairman Allan Leighton insisted its own prices were rising “significantly” less than that.
He said: “Do we have the same issue as everyone else? Yes we do, but we're just not passing it through as much.
