RAF flight from Israel as Lammy warns Iran
DOZENS of Brits were airlifted out of Israel by the RAF yesterday as Foreign Secretary David Lammy warned that the Middle East is in a perilous moment.
It is the first UK evacuation flight since missile strikes began between Israel and Iran.
Lammy said 63 Brits and their dependents were evacuated to Cyprus from Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv on the RAF A400. They were due to arrive in Britain last night.
Former Labour MP Dame Louise Ellman and Chief Rabbi Sir Ephraim Mirvis were reportedly among those on the flight.
Lammy also said yesterday he had warned Iran "it would be a catastrophic mistake to fire at US bases in the region" in revenge for the strikes on its nuclear sites.
He added he had urged Tehran to "get serious and calm this thing down".
Lammy told MPs that a British national has been injured in Israel as a result of an Iranian attack.
The Foreign Secretary said: "This is a perilous moment in the Middle East.
"Waves of strikes between Israel and Iran have now lasted 10 days, continuing overnight.
