RESCUERS GUIDED PAIR DOWN FROM SUMMIT SHELTER

- By OWEN HUGHES

Young walkers stranded on peak in storm

Aberdyfi Mountain Rescue had to come to the aid of two young walkers in the summit shelter on Cadair Idris

TWO young walkers went up one of Wales’s most famous mountains during Storm Amy.

The storm hit the UK on Friday with a Met Office weather warning for Wales.

It saw the region hit with winds of over 80mph - which closed roads and hit power supplies. But the forecast didn’t stop a pair of walkers taking on the well known Cadair Idris, near Dolgellau.

Standing at 2,930ft it is one of the highest mountains in south Eryri.

The walkers went up the peak on Friday afternoon - reaching the summit. They then realised the risk and took refuge in the shelter just off the summit.

The pair had to call for help with Aberdyfi Mountain Rescue Team responding. Members reached the hikers at 10pm and got the walkers down by 12.30am on Saturday.

As reported in yesterday's Daily Post, another walker - who was wearing shorts - was rescued from Tryfan during Storm Amy (see panel, right).
