Weeks of works on shingle coast defence

DIGGERS and dumper trucks are to move in on a Gwynedd beach for the next few weeks as Natural Resources Wales (NRW) begin essential shingle “reprofiling works” at Fairbourne.

The Fairbourne shingle needs reprofiling as part of crucial ongoing coastal defence work for the village

It is part of its ongoing programme to manage flood risk and maintain the village's coastal defences.

Fairbourne had been tipped to become one of the first places in Wales to be “decommissioned” due to rising sea waters but villagers have since been given hope that it could be saved.

This work repeats similar activity carried out in July 2020 and is designed to support the long-term stability of the shingle ridge. This plays a key role in protecting the community from the sea.
