TIME TO END RUN OF POOR PRE-SEASONS

THE pre-seasons for the past couple of years have been very poor. We'll have a set of new faces this summer, so we'll want it to start early and for it to be a good summer against quality opposition. It looks like we've got that lined up.

The next step is signings. I’d like to see people through the door early as they'll need to get up to speed with Everton Football Club, David Moyes, his coaching staff, and what it’s like to play at the new stadium.

The players need to show the manager that they want to be part of the journey.

I’ve been there myself at Manchester City when Sven-Goran Eriksson came in. He praised us all and thanked us for being good professionals and showing belief but told us that at the end of the season, he’d be bringing more players into the football club.

Sven said: ‘If you want to leave, come and knock on my door, but if you want to stay and fight, you're more than welcome to.”
