Thousands to descend on N.Wales town for independence march

Organised by YesCymru and AUOBCymru, the march will take place in Rhyl on October 18.

Since 2019, previous independence rallies have seen marches in Caernarfon, Merthyr Tydfil, Wrexham, Bangor, Swansea, Carmarthen and Cardiff. The second march held in Cardiff in 2022 drew a crowd of more than 10,000.

Organisers say Rhyl is a prime spot for the march as an area ‘that has endured decades of economic decline, chronic under-investment, and a lack of meaningful action from successive Westminster governments’.

Organisers also noted that the announcement comes weeks after the UK Government said the Crown Estate will not be devolved to Wales.

Rhyl Flats and Gwynt y Mor offshore wind farms are part of the multi-million-pound Crown Estate portfolio.

‘The Crown Estate is a collection of marine and land assets and holdings that belong to the monarch.

It includes the seabed out to 12 nautical miles, which is around 65% of the Welsh foreshore and riverbed, and a number of ports and marinas.
