CHAIN APOLOGISES AFTER MUM AND HER AUTISTIC DAUGHTER TOLD PUB WAS 'NOT SUITABLE' FOR THEM

- By OWEN HUGHES

'This is not how disabled people or their families should ever be treated'

A UK chain has apologised after a mum and her autistic daughter were told a pub was not “suitable” for them after they requested a quieter area.

Radio presenter Lynne Chick, 52, from Connah's Quay, went to The Running Hare in Ewloe last Saturday with her 13-year-old daughter, Emily.

They were due to have a carvery for their lunch. Lynne said she “politely” asked if they could get a table for two in a quieter part of the pub, away from a play area.

But she says she was told they were going to have to turn them away as they “didn’t think it would be suitable for her”.

It is part of the Marston’s group and they have apologised to the family for what happened. They said the pub is “intended to be an inclusive and welcoming place for everyone” and they would learn from the incident and “reinforce guidance” to “ensure every guest feels comfortable, supported and valued”.

Lynne is keen to raise awareness about what happened to ensure venues take inclusion more seriously.
