MAKE no apology for returning to this subject yet again, and will continue to do so until measures are introduced to improve the quality of emergency hospital care for people attending district general hospitals in Wales.

- Judith Phillips

Last week we heard of the appalling case of a woman who died unattended in a corridor at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd.

Her passing was witnessed by other patients, who were shocked and traumatised by the experience, and little wonder.

The elderly woman was one of several patients in that corridor who had been admitted to the hospital as emergencies, but were being treated there while they awaited a bed in a ward.

A now retired surgeon, who had previously been a consultant at Glan Clwyd and is now an active voice in a campaign to get community hospital beds restored across North Wales, has commented on the lady's sad death, saying he understands patients can be parked in corridors for up to six days, and that her passing highlights the dangers of the situation.
