A SANDY beach in North Wales has been rolled back by large waves to reveal the remains of a submerged forest.

Ancient tree trunks and their roots have become visible along a 40-metre stretch of Conwy Morfa Beach by the town's golf course.

Local man Lee Bowman was stopped in his tracks when he spotted them on Friday. “We walk the beach once or twice a week and we'd never noticed them before,” he said.

“This time I saw some flattish timber and at first I thought they were planks from a boat. Then I realised some had root systems.

“Heavy seas in recent days have scooped out the sand to create a sand wall some 10 metres up the beach and this is what must have exposed the old trees.”
