Stratus now most common Covid variant

'STRATUS' is now the most common Covid variant in Wales - with experts reporting two major symptoms.

There has been a rise in Covid cases in recent weeks - partly driven by new mutations.

The most detected variant now found in Wales is Omicron XFG - commonly known as 'Stratus. This was detected in 33.1% of sequenced cases in Wales over the past six weeks.

Experts say this and the 'Nimbus' variant do not appear to pose any bigger threat than previous types of Covid. But the genetic changes the virus has acquired may make infections more likely.
